Mercury is the planet most people remember only when it appears to start moving backward and their phone suddenly behaves as if it has developed free will. But blaming Mercury retrograde for every late reply, missed train, and regrettable message leaves out nearly everything that makes this planet interesting.
In astrology, Mercury rules the machinery behind thought and communication. It is how the mind gathers information, sorts it, names it, and sends it back into the world. Mercury represents the mind in motion. It is not intelligence measured by grades, degrees, or how convincingly someone can use the word “therefore.” Mercury describes how we notice things, ask questions, solve problems, remember details, exchange information, and make sense of whatever life has dropped onto our desk.
It also rules language and expression. Some people think aloud. Some polish every sentence before releasing it. Others communicate through stories, jokes, sharp observations, endless questions, or a silence so specific that it still feels like a reply.

Mercury must learn that understanding is not measured by word count. Sometimes the smartest sentence is a question. Sometimes it is an apology. Sometimes it is shutting up long enough to hear the answer.
Mercury is the thought caught before it disappears, the question that changes the direction of a conversation, and the moment a feeling finally finds the right words. It turns what lives inside one person into something another can understand.
Through Mercury, humans trade facts, stories, warnings, promises, nonsense, and pieces of themselves. But communication is more than producing sound in another person’s direction.
